Join the Office of Community Affairs, the , Bronzeville Black Metropolis National Heritage Area, , , and other partners at the on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 5 p.m. in The McCormick Tribune Campus Center Auditorium for a double film screening.

From 5–5:30 p.m., we will watch and learn about John Francis After who after witnessing a devastating oil spill, took a vow of silence and gave up motorized transport, embarking on a 17-year journey across the United States to raise awareness about environmental issues, armed only with a banjo and his principles.

After a quick conversation about the reciprocal relationship between ourselves and the environment, we will view . Rooted is a food justice documentary about activist and urban farmer Germaine Jenkins taking on the power structure in Charleston, South Carolina, to counter the tide of toxic food that has ravaged her community for decades. Will this oasis in a food desert survive and advance civil rights’ latest frontier, or become another mirage in the battle against food apartheid?
