The Department of Food Science and Nutrition at Illinois Tech presents its fall 2025 seminar series featuring guest speaker Cindy Jiang, a global food safety ambassador, who will present “Food Safety Risk Management—A Food Industry Perspective.” This seminar will take place on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 12:45–1:45 p.m. over Zoom.

Abstract

This seminar will explore how food safety risk management is practiced in the food industry. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of integrating food safety risks with overall business risk management, ensuring that food safety is viewed as a core element of business performance and resilience. In addition, the session will highlight the technical expertise and leadership skills needed for food safety professionals to succeed in today’s complex and evolving industry.

Biography

Cindy Jiang is a global food safety ambassador based in the United States. An accomplished food safety professional and global leader, Jiang has dedicated more than three decades to advancing food safety and quality management systems globally. With a strong track record in strategy and policy development, standards implementation, and process improvement, she has been a driving force in upholding the highest standards of food safety and quality within both the company and the global food industry. From 2008 to 2021, Jiang served on the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) board, playing a pivotal role in fostering global collaboration across the food industry. A passionate advocate for uniting industry, government, academia, and NGOs, she continues to inspire positive change in food safety from farm to consumer. As a global food safety ambassador, Jiang remains dedicated to mentoring young professionals and students, actively shaping the future of food safety by connecting people and contributing to ongoing advancements. A distinguished member of professional organizations, Jiang has been part of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) since 1989, is an Honorary Life Member of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP), and a lifetime member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ). Her influence extends beyond her professional achievements, making her a highly respected global leader. Jiang holds a Master of Science in Food Science and Nutrition and retired from McDonald’s Corporation after 33 years of dedicated service, driving global advancements in food safety, quality, and nutrition. Her legacy continues as she shapes industry conversations and mentors the next generation of food safety and quality professionals.
