Tech-Focused, Human-Centered

In the heart of the global metropolis of Â鶹APP, students in Illinois Tech’s Department of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences face the challenges before us—complex, human-made, and urgent—with bold, people-centered approaches. Our students and faculty pursue big questions, plumb uncertain answers, and dare to imagine a better future. Whether you want to shape policies that build a more sustainable world or design new ways to play, you can find a home doing it here.

Here, you'll be empowered to transform your passion into purpose. From bachelor’s degrees that spark creativity, flexible minors that compliment any major, or graduate programs that allow students to design and conduct their own research, HASS programs are built to make an impact. Every undergraduate major can be combined with pathways in pre-med, honors law, or even a second major, with flexible programs like the Humanities (B.S.), Public Policy (B.S.), or Information Communication and Data Visualization (B.S.) serving as powerful complements across disciplines. Along the way, you’ll sharpen your voice in the Writing Center, turn ideas into innovation at the Kaplan Institute, and tackle some of the world’s toughest dilemmas through the Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions. Guided by dedicated faculty mentors and immersed in the boundless opportunities of Â鶹APP, you’ll be challenged not just to succeed, but to lead human-centered change with a purpose.

“Opportunities can come at you like a fire hose, so it takes humility to know how and when to take them on. The versatile nature of the B.S. in Public Policy afforded me the opportunity to transform my passion and facilitate profound developments for communities.â€

“I enjoyed my activities at Illinois Tech, and I am fortunate that such opportunities were provided to me. There are several reasons why I became involved in the campus community. First, it is a way of giving back and returning the favor to the community that was kind to me. It was also a way to contribute to the advancement of knowledge. Finally, I have gained priceless lessons in developing organizational, communication, event planning, and leadership skills.â€
