For Xinting Zhen, research and teaching are the twin pillars supporting success in her academic career. She credits her doctoral studies and faculty mentors at Stuart School of Business with launching her on her current path.

“The Ph.D. program in management science and analytics prepared me with rigorous training in quantitative studies, including corporate finance, statistics, econometrics, and asset pricing,” Zhen says. “The curriculum and courses helped me build comprehensive knowledge about both theoretical and empirical finance.”

Zhen has already compiled an impressive research record. She was selected by the editorial team of the journal Managerial Finance as a Highly Commended Award winner in the 2018 Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards for her dissertation, titled “Three Essays in Financial Institutions and Corporate Finance.”

She also has collaborated with Stuart Professor of Finance Haizhi Wang, her doctoral adviser, and other co-authors on three published papers—“Banking Deregulation and Investment-Cash Flow Sensitivity” in Review of Business (forthcoming 2021), “Bank Market Power and Loan Contracts: Empirical Evidence” in Economic Notes (2017) and “Whom You Borrow from Matters: Universal Banks and Firm Innovation” in Managerial Finance (2019).

“My sincere gratitude goes to my adviser, Dr. Haizhi Wang, and all faculty at Stuart for motivating me to pursue my dream in the field of finance,” says Zhen.
