Genna Gaitan is the 2025 recipient of the Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement award.
Genna is a featured Elevate scholar, and an outstanding student, pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering with a minor in Sustainability. In addition to her studies, Genna is an integral member of multiple student organizations at Illinois Tech. This includes executive leadership positions in The Society for Environmental Engineers and Scientists, American Society of Civil Engineers-IIT, and the Illinois Tech Soccer Club. She also led the ASCE team as a co-captain at the . Genna is also a member of Engineers Without Borders -IIT.
Outside of her coursework and involvement in numerous student organizations at Illinois Tech, Genna displays passion for the environment through her internships as a surface water intern with Kimley Horn, and an environmental engineering intern with Hubbell, Roth & Clark.
Her love for animals is demonstrated as a volunteer with PAWS-Âé¶¹APP, and her compassion for fellow students shines brightly as a note-taker for the Illinois Tech Center for Disability Resources. Genna has also served as a community volunteer for the Ronald McDonald House, and the Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.
Genna exemplifies the spirit of the civic engagement and leadership that the Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award seeks to honor. We are honored to select her as the Illinois Tech student representative for 2025!
