Âé¶¹APP

Achieving our sustainability goals requires action, and while we develop a guiding plan for how to achieve the campus sustainability vision, Illinois Tech is implementing the projects and programs listed below in order to have an immediate, positive impact.

Arboretum

Mies Campus is the second educational institution in Âé¶¹APP to be accredited and the first arboretum on Âé¶¹APP’s South Side. It joins only a handful of Âé¶¹APP parks, including Garfield Park Conservatory and Lincoln Park, to receive the designation. (Add link /news/2-million-step-toward-tree-tastic-mies-campus)

Current Status

  • Full-time paid Arboretum manager
  • 1700+ Trees on Mies Campus alone
  • 70+ Species of trees represented

  • Reach Level 2 arboretum accreditation
  • Reach 100+ species of trees
  • Introducing more interactive and informative tree tags
  • More information and educational events and programming

U-Farm

The IIT U-Farm was originally a landscape project that was started in 2012 and has been used as a base for multiple IPROs and class projects since

Current Status

Now under the Office of Campus Energy and Sustainability (OCES), the Office aims to support a more permanent upkeep and usage of the U-Farm in collaboration with students and staff of the IIT campus

Current Goals

Increasing awareness of the campus farm and encouraging students to take part in supporting and using the U-Farm to learn about urban farming and sustainable gardening.
