Emergency management ensures communities like Illinois Tech are prepared to respond to and recover when disaster strikes. As emergency managers, we create, coordinate, and manage systems that save lives, minimize damage to property and infrastructure, mitigate future risks, and work to restore our communities.

Emergency management is a critical function that identifies, assesses, and mitigates risks to ensure resilience. It leads crisis preparedness, response coordination, and recovery efforts by working across disciplines, sectors, and jurisdictions.

Watch the short video below provided by the International Association of Emergency Managers to get a better understanding of how Emergency managers play a role in your community.

At Illinois Tech, Katie Norton serves as the Emergency Management Specialist, collaborating across university departments to strengthen campus safety. She works both horizontally and vertically within the institution to develop, implement, and train on comprehensive plans outlining how the university will respond to a wide range of potential emergencies. Through these efforts, Illinois Tech is building a safer, more resilient community, prepared not only for today’s challenges but for those of the future.
