Illinois Tech is committed to the safety and well-being of its faculty, staff, students, and campus community. To support this commitment, university safety departments offer a series of trainings designed to help community members build essential skills, strengthen preparedness, and promote a safer campus environment.
Overseen by the Office of Emergency Management and Environmental Health and Safety, these trainings cover a variety of safety-related topics, including First Aid and CPR, laboratory safety, occupational safety, and emergency preparedness. Participants gain practical knowledge and skills to help them respond confidently to potential hazards and emergencies.

Trainings are available upon request and require a minimum of two weeks’ advance notice. Once your request is submitted, it will be directed to the appropriate department. A representative will then contact you to coordinate scheduling and discuss the details of your training.

Emergency Operations Team – Continuing Education
The Emergency Operations Team (EOT) comprises key personnel from across Illinois Tech who bring the expertise and operational knowledge needed to support the university’s emergency response and recovery efforts. To strengthen campus preparedness and resilience, EOT members participate in ongoing training and exercises to practice emergency procedures, reinforce response capabilities, and improve coordination during incidents.
To further support these efforts, EOT members and the broader Illinois Tech community are encouraged to take advantage of free, self-paced online training courses developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). These courses introduce participants to emergency management principles and the National Incident Management System (NIMS), which Illinois Tech has adopted to guide its incident management approach.
These training opportunities help participants build the knowledge and skills needed to support effective incident response, improve coordination, and strengthen emergency preparedness and resilience across the university community.
