Sustainability Vision of Illinois Institute of Technology

As a world-class institution of higher learning, Illinois Institute of Technology recognizes the critical importance of the university's mission “to advance knowledge through research and scholarship, to cultivate invention improving the human condition, and to educate students from throughout the world for a life of professional achievement, service to society, and individual fulfillment”—moving our world toward a more sustainable path.

Definition of Sustainability

Illinois Tech defines university sustainability as having effective resource management; continuous improvement of processes and a reduction of waste and pollutants; movement toward a goal of zero waste; considering immediate and long-term benefits and consequences; and giving members of the Illinois Tech community the tools to improve their resource management in actions associated with their attendance at, or work for, the university.
